How to make your iPad safe for kids with parental controls?

Kids love using iPad as they can play games, solve puzzles, type, draw, read educational books, explore multi-touch navigation, etc. And, of course, the company took care of parental control for iPad to make the device’s usage as safe as possible.

Activating parental control is essential when it comes to the kid’s safety. It’s your responsibility as a parent to make sure that every time your kid uses iPad, it doesn’t harm them in any possible way.

In this article, we’re going to find out how Apple protects kids by in-built iPad parental control and what is the best parental control app for iPad.

To enable parental control on iPad, you need to go to Restrictions. Besides protecting your kid from adult content, it protects your bank account from unauthorized in-app purchases.

You don’t have to be tech-savvy to activate them. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

  • Find the app settings
  • Tap on General
  • Pick Restrictions
  • Strike Enable Restrictions
  • Set a passcode

By the way, make sure your passcode is not the same as your screen’s one and your kid doesn’t know it.

That’s not all. There are 5 sections to be restricted when using iPad parental control:

  • “Allow” defines what type of content kids can access (News, Podcasts), how they can communicate and what data they can share (Airdrop). Also, parents need to make sure they disabled access to in-app purchases and the iTunes Store. Suddenly, parents may discover new downloads on their iPad. Only in 2014, Apple refunded $32.5 million for unauthorized child in-app purchases.
  • “Allowed Content” means parents can restrict any content they deem unallowable: news, books, podcasts, music, websites (the latter might be added to a blacklist).
  • “Privacy” is a powerful setting of iPad parental control because it allows to hold off the communication. You can disable social media usage like Facebook and Twitter. Nobody will be able to track the location if you turn off the location service in “Share my location” options.
  • “Allow Changes” means kids can add events to the calendar or change credentials for iTunes.
  • “Game Center” allows to disable games and screen recordings. Also, your kid won’t be able to add new friends who were not approved by you as a parent.

  • Access a phone book and block numbers you don’t want your kid gets in touch with
  • Manage and restrict apps
